I’m sitting here, in my finished home-office, and I feel a very real sense of calm and relief. For over 10 years I have worked in corporate spaces that left a lot to be desired. From bat droppings greeting me every morning to 33″ narrow spaces with no elbow room, I’ve cranked out some pretty spectacular work in some pretty horrible work spaces.

I’m on the verge of becoming a real believer in making your work space a tool for productivity. I can feel it – this sense of calm and mindful clarity that I didn’t feel in those other spaces. I can see how creating a space that fits your style, with a little indulgence in things that make it work well, is a huge asset in boosting your mood and productivity. There’s no clutter, there’s no ugliness, there’s just things that make me happy surrounding me all the time.

Take a look around you right now. What do you see? Are there piles of paper everywhere? Posters haphazardly stuck on the wall? Bad lighting? Depressing colours? It’s time for a change. Your brain is probably bogged down with all that visual baggage, and you’re not being as productive as you could be. Give yourself a modest budget and see what just a little adjustment can do.

Then sit in your new invigorating space and kick some ass, because that’s what you’re good at.
